We don't see many 2-Stroke Motor Cycles, Scooters or Mopeds these days, why?
While 2-Stroke engines provide an attractive Power to Weight ratio, simple in design and cheaper to build, their Fuel Efficiencies are awfully low. They are bigger culprits of polluting the environment. Hence, they are being phased out.
How is a 2T Engine Oil so different than a 4T Engine Oil used for bikes / cars etc?
A 2T Oil is designed to lubricate the engine components, a mix-up with the fuel completely, burn and go out in the exhaust. 4T Oil is not designed to do so. As a result, when a 4T Oil is put into a 2T Engine, it causes spark-plug fouling, exhaust port blockage, smoke emissions, etc.
Some of the 4-Stroke 3-Wheelers run on Diesel, some on Petrol while some on CNG/LPG. Can we use the same oil irrespective of the Fuel Type in the 3-Wheelers?
No. You need to use a dedicated Engine Oil suiting to your 3-Wheeler.
What is the correct way of checking Engine Oil in my car?
It is important to keep the engine oil at the correct level, to ensure proper lubrication of your vehicle’s engine. Check the oil level with the vehicle on a level surface. The oil level indication may be inaccurate if the vehicle is on a slope. The oil level should be checked either before starting the engine or at least two or three minutes after stopping the engine. Pull out the oil dipstick, wipe off the oil with a clean cloth, insert the dipstick all the way into the engine, and then remove it again. The oil on the stick should be between the upper and lower limits shown on the stick. If the oil level indication is near the lower limit add enough oil to rise to the upper limit.
What should be a safe frequency of changing my brake fluid?
In course of use, the brake fluid picks up moisture from the atmosphere. Beyond 2 years, it would absorb moisture to a level that would significantly bring down its boiling point. Hence, it is a good practice to change your brake fluid every two years.
